   Description
Commissioned by the Arts Section oft the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture, the kulturdokumentation conducted a survey 2013 among independent culture initiatives, which have received subsidies by the Ministry in 2012. A major concern of the survey was to obtain objective information on the employment situation and income of the staff of independent cultural initiatives

205 out of 303 respondents participated in the survey and provided data on 1.099 employees (51% women / 49% men). Among the paid staff atypical forms of contract often prevail, whereas standard employment conditions (full-time-work) are the exception. The sector is characterized by a high degree of voluntary work.

The organisations offer an extensive cultural programme: 129 culture initiatives implemented 1.113 events with 665.548 visitors in 2012.

The findings of this evaluation were presented in the cultural committee of the parliament by Veronika Ratzenböck in November 2014.
