Faro - The Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society
DescriptionThe Council of Europe´s Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro 2005) extends the concept of cultural heritage in relation to other conventions and underlines the responsibility of each state for its cultural heritage. In addition it emphasises the close connection between cultural heritage and sustainable development and asks: why and for whose benefit are we protecting the European cultural heritage?Austria signed and ratified the framework convention in 2014 and enters into force in 2015, so Austria committed itself to taking measures to implement the terms of the agreement. Commissioned by the Federal Chancellery the österreichische kulturdokumentation carried out an exploratory study that summarizes the basic content and aims of the convention and analyses its role and importance in the European and international context. On the basis of six best-practice examples the study demonstrates first steps for the implementation in Austria
